Kitchen Remodeling Trends

So what’s new when it comes to remodeling or updating your kitchen? What are the latest trends, products, looks and styles? Here are a few things to look into if you are looking to update your kitchen…

Backsplashes used to be used to protect your walls from moisture and grease from your stove. Now, it is thought of as an important design feature. From tiles, to marble slabs, to stainless steel you can really choose what you want according to your decor. Here are a few tips…

  • Marble – beautiful and low maintenance, but is very porous and absorbs grease and dirt

  • Granite – most durable but needs resealed twice a year to maintain protection

  • Ceramic Tiles – come in a variety of sizes, shapes, colors and give the budget-conscious an opportunity to customize the look

When it comes to choosing colors, remember to think about resale. If you are going to update your home and spend money to do so make sure you talk to the little person on your shoulder that says, “Is this good for resale?” Bold colors, expensive appliances all come into play.

First let’s talk colors. Here are a few colors that can stand the test of time throughout your Kitchen…

Wood stains and styles go in and out of style often. The 90’s it was lighter wood but now buyers are wanting darker wood. So find a neutral and simple style cabinet door with a blonde to brunette finish and you will be playing it safe but in style! Then the buyer can either restain the cabinet or change out the hardware.

Maybe even try painting your cabinets white. This is a classic neutral color as well.

No matter what type of material you pick, make sure to keep it somewhat neutral. The standard countertop colors are white, green and black. If you are set on a trendy countertop, use it on the island which will become the centerpiece and focal point of the room.

A must have right now are stainless steel appliances. These have been around for years, but have become more popular over other styles. Will this trend fade? I am not sure!

Open Floor Plan

Having an open floor plan you can entertain in is what’s in right now. If you can open up your closed off Kitchen in any way, you will be glad you did when you try to resell your home. Preferably open to the family room, but it will depend on your home’s floor plan.
