It’s that time of year! Spring is the perfect time for entertaining guests, so declutter and organize your home to impress. Tackle these five small tasks to make a big impact on the appearance of your home today.
Make a To-Do List
Make a to-do list of everything that needs done this spring, and then tackle one project, room, box, etc., at a time. Doing this will help you stay organized and on top of everything that you want to accomplish.
Clean out the Refrigerator
You’ll be surprised by how great a clean fridge will make you feel. Completely empty it and wipe down the walls and drawers. Throw away expired food and condiments, and take note of what you have. Doing this will help you figure out what food items you need to buy for the next backyard barbecue or pool party.
When in Doubt, Throw it Out
Declutter your home by pitching or donating items that you don’t really need. Stop saying, “but, I might need it for something,” because let’s face it – if you haven’t used it already, you probably won’t. If you have enough things that you’re willing to get rid of, consider holding a garage sale to earn a few extra bucks from your old stuff.
Get Your Kids Involved
If you have kids, one of the hardest things may be getting them to help out. Turn your organizing into a game or offer incentives and rewards. If your child has a closet full of clothes that they won’t get rid of, have a fashion show. Let them try on all of their clothes and strut around. When they realize some of the clothes don’t fit, they’ll be more willing to give them up.
Deep Clean One Room per Week
Your spring organizing will inevitably turn into cleaning, too. Each week, pick a different room to deep clean while you organize. Get rid of clutter by using decorative bins on shelves or storage boxes for the closet. During the decluttering process, throw away anything you would consider trash. Vacuum floors and wash bedding, blankets and curtains if necessary. A little cleaning will go a long way.
Spring is the perfect time for entertaining guests in your home. Whether it’s for a backyard barbecue or a pool party, people will still be in and out of your house. Show them how savvy you are by keeping your home in the best shape no matter what. A little organization goes a long way.
